No fires or smoking in parks

With much of eastern Vancouver Island in a level 4 drought situation it is getting dry out there.
For the most part, the parks and trails in Nanaimo are not irrigated which means fires can easily start.
Al Britton, the manager of park operations says signs are going up on the trails and in the parks reminding users that smoking is not permitted and neither are open flames….
The only cooking that can be done, with a propane barbeque, is in approved locations in Bowen Park and Muffeo Sutton park.
Briquettes are not allowed.
