Nanaimo releases Statement of Financial Information

There are 256 employees earning over 75,000 dollars a year within the City of Nanaimo.
That’s up from 232 in 2014.
The City has released it’s annual Statement of Financial Information and it contains what council, the mayor and senior staff are being paid.
City officials say the reason for the bump in pay for a number of positions was the result of a City wide Job Information Questionnaire project that was completed in 2015.
This project reviewed all of the CUPE jobs throughout the City to evaluate if they were being fairly paid in
relation to other.
The result was some retroactive pay increases in 2015.
Also in the annual Statement of Financial Information, the highest paid manager was the former Nanaimo city manager, Ted Swabey who was getting better than 240,000 dollars a year.
3 of the other top 4 earners are no longer at their posts, with the General Manager of Community Services, Tom Hickey’s position axed last December in a downsizing.
Ian Howat, general manager of corporate services moved on to take a position with another municipality and Toby Seward, acting senior director of strategic operations retired.
As for the mayor and council,  the Mayor, Bill McKay racked up more than 28 thousand dollars in expenses in 2015.

Councillor Jerry Hong was next up, spending almost 7,800 dollars.
He was followed by Councillor Wendy Pratt who spent around 7,400 dollars in 2015.
As for income, McKay made just over 95,000 dollars in 2015 while councillors got around 36,000 dollars.
