The survey results are in, and now BC Ferries is going to work with its Advisory Committees to decide how to go forward with sailing cuts.
Ministry of Transportation needs Ferries to trim nearly 19 million dollars through cuts to start at the end of April.
People had until last Friday to weigh in through telephone and on-line surveys, and Darin Guenette of BC Ferries says they’re happy with the number of responses. He says it’s giving them a sample that’s likely to be pretty accurate. However, they’re not saying at this point which options for routes like Langdale or Gabriola were the majority choice.
Guenette also says this is where direct public input ends. The meetings with Ferry Advisory Committees and select stakeholders will not be open.
Groups opposed to going ahead with any cuts aren’t giving up. The group BC Ferry Coalition was urging people to make comments on the survey calling for an end to the cuts. They’re also planning a protest at the Legislature March 11th
