Alleged assault at local school

Nanaimo RCMP is investigating an alleged assault of a 15 year old boy at John Barsby Community School.
Police say the alleged incident involved the boy and three 17 year old students and it happened during school hours, last Friday morning.

The incident was brought to the attention of the RCMP School Liaison Officer assigned to the school shortly after it happened.

As a result of her investigation 3 boys, all students at the school were identified.
While early in the investigation, police say it appears some disparaging comments may have been posted to a social media site which culminated in the 15 year old being assaulted.
The victim sustained some bruising and a concussion and was taken to local hospital for treatment and later released.

RCMP say they are working in conjunction with school officials to gather all the facts surrounding the incident and so far, no decision has been made on criminal charges.

Constable Gary O’Brien says Mounties are also monitoring social media sites and talking to students at the school to ensure no other incidents related to this one happen.
