No injuries following 7 hour standoff in Coombs area

Oceanside RCMP have arrested a 36 year old man following a standoff in the Coombs area.

Police say it all started around 10 Tuesday morning when they responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle and, after locating it near the Alberni Highway and Winchester Road, officers attempted to pull the man over.

The driver tried to flee in the vehicle and in the process rammed the side of the police cruiser before running off on foot.

RCMP Police Dog Services were called in and tracked the man to a trailer park where he had entered a mobile home, refused to come out, and threatened violence.

That resulted in the RCMP Emergency Response Team being called in.

The man, with a last known address on Southern Vancouver Island, is well known to police and had several outstanding arrest warrants when taken into custody.

A multitude of charges are being considered including Possession of a Firearm, Break and Entry to a Residence, and Flight from Police.
