Lantzville water deal worries former mayor

A vote Monday could finalize Nanaimo’s half of an agreement to provide Lantzville with water. The deal has been a long time coming.

Former Lantzville Mayor Colin Haime says the deal doesn’t really reflect what he had in mind when he signed a memorandum of understanding in 2005. Haime thinks the agreement, as it currently stands, will encourage urban sprawl and put Lantzville in a risky financial position.

He wants Lantzville residents to have a chance to vote on the deal during the municipal election in November, and he doesn’t think Nanaimo will have a problem with that.
