Fraser Surrey Docks coal plan will have to wait for more study

Fraser Surrey Docks has been told to do more work before a final decision its coal import proposal… which could be welcome news for opposition groups like the Sunshine Coast’s “Salish Sea Coal Committee”.

Port Metro Vancouver says they’ve asked FSD for more studies of the impacts on health and environment.  There’s no timeline, but gathering the new data is sure to mean delays and give people who want to project stopped more time to make their case.

Fraser Health has called the current studies inadequate, and the Medical Health Officer for the Sunshine Coast has also been calling for better studies.

The proposed shipping route includes a transfer point at Texada Island.
