Sechelt councillor says it's time to re-think affordable housing policy

Sechelt Councillor Chris Moore says the District’s affordable housing policy is the sort of “social engineering” he got into local politics to stop.

Under the policy Sechelt makes deals with developers to include affordable units in some projects.

Moore says it’s time to re-think the policy, in part because enforcing the agreements is going to create too much bureaucracy.

Moore, whose background is real estate, says based on a recent review of MLS listings in the area Sechelt already has a lot on the market that falls in the price range ear-marked as “affordable” .

Moore’s getting some support from Councillor Mike Shanks, who says there is a better way.
