No sign of homeless occupants

Construction crews for the Ministry of Transportation dismantled the remnants of a tent city Monday in Nanaimo.

The dozen or so people who had been living in tents on a slope below the Pearson Bridge had been told late last week they had to leave so crews could work on the slope which was eroding.

They were vowing to stay but when work crews arrived Monday there was no one in the camp so it was loaded into a bin to be hauled away.

The encampment had been in place for 6 months.

It’s not certain where the homeless people went.
