National Day of Mourning

Today (Thur) is the National Day of Mourning.
It’s an annual event held to remember those who have lost their lives on the job.
Ellen Oxman, president of the Nanaimo/Duncan and District Labour Council says a couple of services are planned in our area…..

There were 2 workplace fatalities in the Cowichan Valley in 2015, one in Nanaimo and one on the Sunshine Coast.
There were 122 WorkSafe B.C. accepted work-related deaths in 2015 in B.C.
72 were the result of occupational disease.
115 of those who died were men and 7 were women.
