Float home development floated for Nanaimo waterfront

Word that a development of float homes could be coming to Nanaimo’s waterfront is already generating interest. Harbour Homes Marina Inc. President Scott Valliere bought a property on Stewart Avenue from the Nanaimo Shipyard last week,  including 5 acres of water and 1 acre of land. His vision is to build up to 75 float homes, each an average of 1200 square feet. He says he has received some good feedback from the City and potential buyers are already approaching him to express interest. Valliere says a waterfront community would suit the Harbour City well.

Valliere says the project needs approval from the federal government, the Nanaimo Port Authority and the City of Nanaimo. Part of the property is also contaminated, so a clean-up plan is being submitted to the NPA next week. Valliere says he’s hoping everything comes through so they can dredge the marina and get to work in June, 2014.
