New Region-Wide Water Restrictions

A new region-wide standard watering restriction framework has been adopted by the Regional District of Nanaimo along with 11 other major water service areas, including the City of Nanaimo.
The exemptions in the watering restrictions are for those with private wells and those on the small water systems who should check with their own water purveyor for local restriction information.
Deb Churko, engineering technologist with the Regional District of Nanaimo says the new framework was necessary because during restrictions last summer there was lots of confusion…..
Stage One water restrictions begin this Friday when lawns can only be watered before 7am or after 7pm.
Stage Two restrictions will take effect May 1st and that’s when lawns can only be watered every other day.
Churko says gardens and fruit trees can be watered anytime all summer long regardless of the Stage of restriction.
