Sunshine Coast cold weather shelter secure for rest of winter

The success from one last fundraising push means the Sunshine Coast’s cold weather shelter for the homeless is staying open until spring.

Gibsons Councillor Lee Ann Johson is part of the group that’s been working to ensure people have a place to stay on nights that BC Housing doesn’t pay to open the Extreme Weather Emergency Shelter.

She says with 4-thousand dollars raised at the Cold Nights, Warm Hearts event earlier this month, and a matching grant from the District of Sechelt they’ve got the money they need.

The group running the shelter is hoping its success over this winter will help them convince the province to fund it, as well as the emergency shelter.
