Film Commission welcomes extension of credit to whole Island

Vancouver Island got a mention in the provincial budget, with the move to extend the Distant Location Tax Credit for film and TV production to the Capital Region.

The credit already applies to the rest of the Island, but Vancouver Island North Film Commissioner Joan Miller says when the Victoria area was left out it hurt the industry and a lot of the crews and facilities moved to the Lower Mainland.

Miller says bringing in the Victoria area will boost production everywhere on Vancouver Island.

Miller also says the decision opens the way for more cooperation between  the Vancouver Island North and South Film Commissions to market the entire Island as a filming destination.
