The City of Nanaimo’s Fire Rescue is reminding residents that backyard burning is banned unless you have a permit.
To get that permit specific conditions must be met.
Among those, burning permits will only be issued on lots that are an acre or more and wooden construction material, stumps, and household garbage can’t be burned.
Burning is only permitted from sunrise to sunset, Fridays and Saturdays, during the months of April and November and only organic yard waste materials such as garden refuse and prunings can be burned.
Fires cannot be larger than one and a half meters across and a hose has to be handy in case the fire has to be extinguished
