City offers more time to deal with fire damaged home

Nanaimo Council heard first-hand last night about an issue some owners face after a fire.

The owner of a Nanaimo home damaged by a blaze last June convinced Council not to go ahead with a demolition order for 478 Machleary, saying he wants to rebuild, but there have been delays with the insurance settlement.

Randy Churchill is the City’s Manager of Bylaw Regulation and Security.  He says they’re working on a report about other fire damaged properties.

The owner of the Machleary street house has been given another 90 days to sort things out.
