Provincial budget coming as Parksville's mayor calls for united front to lobby prov and feds

Tuesday is budget day in BC.

Finance Minister Mike de Jong says it’s going to be a balanced, and low key budget: No big new spending programs or “swings in taxation policy”, meaning no new taxes, but no cuts either.

The budget comes down at 2 this afternoon.

Looking ahead to the provincial budget and back at the federal one the mayor of Parksville says Vancouver Island communities have been passed over for major infrastructure projects, and it might be time for a united front.

Chris Burger says Island mayors need to work together to more aggressively lobby both seniors governments for more infrastructure dollars.  Burger originally made the comments at a Chamber of Commerce event last week.

And Nanaimo mayor John Ruttan agrees. He points out that the last significant infrastructure investments for the Island came almost 5 years ago.
