Among Canadian container ports, Nanaimo was ranked sixth, behind Vancouver, Montreal, Prince Rupert, Halifax, and Saint John.
The 9 point 3 million dollar expansion at the port is finished now and president and CEO of the Nanaimo Port Authority says business is booming.
Bernie Dumas says imports to the container shipping facility include those bound for big box stores and exports include lumber and bottled water but there are numerous positive economic spin off effects as well as a result of the port activity……
Dumas says a Phase Two expansion is already on the drawing board but it will require a $50 million investment and it’s probably 5 years out yet.
