RCMP were called to a trail near Nanaimo after a woman found a some suspicious items on it.
Police say she came across a wire strung at neck level and a series of wooden jagged stakes in the ground.
The trail is used by mountain bikers.
The items were found on a logging road that accesses Barsby Lake, located about 13 kilometres from the Wakesiah Avenue intersection, along Nanaimo Lakes Road.
The items were removed and the RCMP are investigating.
Police say the items could have caused serious injury to an unsuspecting mountain biker or someone on a dirt bike.
There have been no other similar reports in the area so police are hoping it’s a one-off.
