Nanaimo to fly Pride flag for rest of Olympics

Nanaimo is joining dozens of other cities around the country in flying the Pride flag during the Olympics in Sochi.

They made the decision Monday night, 10 days after the games opened.  It was Councillor Diane Brennan who brought it up.

Councillor Fred Pattje was slightly apologetic that it took so long, and asked the public to recognize that it’s “better late than never”.

Dozens of Canadian cities, and the Legislature in Victoria, have been flying the Pride flag to show disapproval of Russia’s controversial laws targeting gay people.
