Chase ends in Duncan

Two men haveĀ been arrested in Duncan after a pursuit that began in Nanaimo and involved multiple police vehicles from several police jurisdictions.
During the pursuit, two police officers from Nanaimo were injured and 4 police vehicles damaged.

RCMP say it all started just before 4 o’clock yesterday afternoon after policeĀ received reportsĀ of multiple gunshots being fired into an occupied vehicle.

The vehicle was parked in a residential area of Nanaimo near a children’s daycare.

A witness to the shooting managed to provide a description of the suspect vehicle and aboutĀ 20 minutes later it was spotted by police in south Nanaimo.

Police followed theĀ carĀ to Ladysmith at which point Ladysmith RCMP became involved and despite equipment designed to stop the suspects, the car continued through the community at a high rate of speed.

By ten to 5 police managed to stop the car in DuncanĀ at the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway and Cornation Avenue.

Two men,Ā both in their mid-twenties, were arrested for attempted murder and a variety of weapons charges.
Two officers from theĀ Nanaimo RCMP Detachment suffered nonĀ life threatening injuries in the incident.

Although multipleĀ shots were fired at the vehicle from close range inĀ Nanaimo,Ā the lone man in the car was not injured.
