Nanaimo RCMP say they've arrested 3rd suspect in Dec 4th incidents

Nanaimo RCMP say they’ve arrested a third suspect in an attempted robbery and robbery that sparked a brief car chase earlier this month.

Sergeant Sheryl Armstrong says the arrest was made Wednesday afternoon after a Bike Unit member spotted three people involved in what looked like a drug deal.  When the officer got close two of the men started walking away, but the third was trying to get away quickly.  When the officer went to stop him, he broke into a run.

After the officer caught him and tried to put him under arrest he got free and ran away again.  Some other RCMP officers eventually arrested him in Bowen Park.

32 year old Nicola Antoni Skupnik now faces 2 charges of robbery in connection with the December 4th attempted robbery of Matheson’s Jewelers and a robbery at Central Drugs.  He makes his first court appearance December 12th.

The two others charged in the case have already made their first appearances, and will be back in court in early January.
