School trustees get a raise after 6 years of status quo

School board trustees on the Sunshine Coast have voted themselves an increase in pay.
The 8 per cent increase means School District 46 trustees now make better than 14 thousand dollars per year.
The vice chair makes just over 16 thousand and the chair better than 18 thousand.
The increase is retroactive to January first of this year.
Trustees hadn’t had an increase in pay since 2010.
Along with the increase in pay trustees agreed to future annual increases in line with the consumer price index.

Pammila Ruth, who chaired the committee, says as a forward-thinking, innovative and collaborative board, their pay should be at least at par with the provincial average.
