Storm disrupts ferry service, cuts power and shuts Mt Washington access road

Another big storm system swept through the region Sunday.

Ferries were delayed or cancelled, drivers struggled on snow-covered roads on the Island and a few thousand Nanaimo area and Sunshine Coast customers lost power.

But the snow turned out a be too much of a good thing at Mt Washington.  Blizzard conditions led to accidents the closure of the access road, stranding skiers at the lodge for hours while crews worked to clear a path on the resort’s first full weekend of operation after having to close due to too little snow just after Christmas.

Coast FM’s Hilary Eastmure was among those on the mountain with the Coast FM Snow Rider.  She talked with resort president Peter Gibson

She also found most of the other stranded skiers were taking it in stride
