SCRD moves to secure water supply

The Sunshine Coast Regional District has awarded a contract for the design, regulatory approvals and construction management of the Chapman Lake Water Supply Storage Expansion project.
The contract, valued at more than half a million dollar has been awarded to AECOM and does not include the cost of construction.
The main goal of the project is to increase access to five additional metres of water in Chapman Lake in order to provide additional water capacity to support the municipal supply, environmental flows, and fire protection during periods of drought.
The concept going forward is based on lowering the Chapman Lake discharge channel to allow the regulation of gravity flow from the Lake to Chapman Creek.

The timeline for the project schedule depends a lot on the regulatory approval process, however, the target is to have a built system in place by the end of July this year, whether it’s temporary or the final permanent solution.
