The answer to the question of restoring the coast guard service cut by the Conservatives was not a very satisfying one.
Courtenay/Alberni MP Gord Johns says the recent loss of life following a whale watching accident in Tofino underlines the fact that local eyes and ears on the ground are essential for coastal safety and this past week in Ottawa, he called on the Liberals to restore the service as they promised in the federal election campaign……
Rachael Blaney, MP for North Island/Powell River also called on the government to halt the closure of the Comox Marine Communications Traffic Services Centre.
It’s slated to close March 31st and she says the Liberals are missing in action.
Fisheries and Oceans Minster, Hunter Tootoo responded….
The Liberals promised to restore the Coast Guard s ability to respond to marine emergencies but they have not yet made an announcement about the two centres, leaving the communities in limbo.
