Bus service labour dispute

Talks between BC Transit’s contractor, First Canada, and their unionized employees broke down last week and the union served 72 hours strike notice.

Stu Shields of Unifor says that means the union is in a legal strike position today (Mon) but out of consideration for riders will hold off to walk off the job until Wednesday….

First Canada operates the fixed-route service in the Cowichan Valley and Ladysmith, as well as the commuter service connecting the Cowichan Valley and Victoria.

Any job action will not affect handyDART services in the Regional District, nor does it apply to local service in the Lake Cowichan area, specifically routes 20 and 21.

However, Route 7 connections between Lake Cowichan and Duncan would be subject to potential service disruptions.
