The President of the BC Nurses Union says the province’s plan to hire more nurses will hopefully relieve some of the stress nurses are experiencing.
The province has committed to hiring more than 1600 additional nurses by March 31st.
Gayle Duteil says they’re optimistic the move will improve patient care, and address some of the staffing shortages they’ve flagged.
Duteil says Island Health will be looking to hire around 290 additonal nurses while Vancouver Coastal Health will be hiring around 235.
