Nanaimo City Council has approved nearly $285,000 in culture and heritage grants.
Former Councillor Diana Johnstone is Chair of the City’s Culture and Heritage Commission.
Council approved 9 project grant applications and 16 operating grant applications.
Johnstone says the Vancouver Island Symphony, Crimson Coast Dance Society, TheatreOne and Nanaimo Conservatory of Music have secured 3-year operating grants.
Over the next two years, culture and heritage funding in Nanaimo will grow from $2.30 cents per capita to $3.00.
