Gibsons Councillors lukewarm on idea of new pool

The future of the swimming pool in Gibsons is on the table as the Sunshine Coast Regional District looks at upgrades and repairs at rec facilities.

The SCRD says the Gibsons Pool will need 375 thousand dollars worth of work this year, and 1.6 million through 2020.

One alternative is a new pool at the site of the rink and community centre; but that’s not generating a lot of enthusiasm with the Town’s representatives with the SCRD.

Councillor Gerry Tretick is the Gibsons Director at the RD.

Councillor Lee Ann Johnson is the Alternate Director for Gibsons at the RD.  She says the Gibsons pool is a victim of SCRD policy.

Although not completely sold Gibsons has agreed to keep the door open, telling the SCRD they’re willing to entertain the idea of a new pool if the SCRD can show it’s got public support
