Nanaimo-Ladysmith MP looking forward to 2016

Nanaimo-Ladysmith NDP MP Sheila Malcolmson says there will be lots of issues on her plate in the New Year.

She’s planning to table a private members bill on derelict vessel bill within the next month.

Malcolmson is also anticipating our region will have a special role in the inquiry into murdered and missing indigenous women, especially given the mandate of Vancouver Island University’s Centre for Pre-Confederation Treaties and Reconciliation.

Malcolmson says she’s also hearing concerns from residents employed in the fossil fuel sector, who are worried their jobs are at risk because of the downturn in the sector. She says Nanaimo-Ladysmith is fast-becoming a hotbed for technological advances and projects related to sustainable energy.
