Nanaimo Mayor has high hopes for 2016

The Mayor of Nanaimo says he’s looking forward to making progress on some major projects in 2016.

Bill McKay says a top priority is a fast ferry between Nanaimo and downtown Vancouver.

McKay says the City and the Port Authority are issuing an RFP, and they’re keen to hear from operators who are serious about getting the service up and running within the year.

He says he also wants to see something done with the empty lot next to the Vancouver Island Conference Centre, where a hotel project fell through earlier this year. He says council has asked for more information before issuing a new RFP.

As far as what the City accomplished in 2015, McKay says he’s pleased they were able to make a decision and begin construction on an auxiliary spillway at Colliery Dam Park, to satisfy provincial requirements
