If you’ve ever considered becoming a stem cell donor, there’s a perfect opportunity to sign up this week in Nanaimo.
Canadian Blood Services is hostingĀ a OneMatch swab event on Thursday to help find a match for a young man from the Lower Mainland.
David Patterson, BC’s Director of Donor Relations, says they want to find a stem cell match for a patient named Jay.
Patterson says only 25% of patients who need a stem cell transplant can find a match within their own family.
All it takes is a quick cheek swab, and then you’re added to the OneMatch data base.
