Mt. Washington re-opening after heavy snow

They’re calling it “Winter 2.0”.  After having to shut down because of a lack of snow, Mt. Washington is re-opening Thursday morning thanks to the storm system hitting southern BC.

The mountain has already had more than 80 centimeters of new snow, and they expect to get 100 more before the end of the weekend.

“We were joking that this is the second version, version 2.0 of our winter season,” explains the resort’s Brent Curtain. “And judging by the forecasts, version 2.0 is going to be much bigger and better than version 1.0... We haven’t seen the weather systems line up like this in the forecast since December 2012.”

The change in the weather is also good news for the hundreds of workers who had to be laid off when the mountain closed down.
