Nanaimo dispensaries reopen 1 day after RCMP raids

The Nanaimo Cannabis Coalition says the three marijuana dispensaries shut down on Tuesday by Nanaimo RCMP are reopening as soon as possible.

The group held a press conference on Wednesday at the Dorchester Hotel on Wednesday.

16 people were arrested and charged when RCMP raided Trees Dispensary, Phoenix Pain Management Society and Nature’s Source.

Alex Robb is the Community Liaison for Trees. He says they want the charges dropped against the front-line workers detained by police.

Robb says they want Nanaimo to follow the lead of places like Victoria, Vancouver and Port Alberni in regulating and licensing dispensaries.

In the meantime, he says Trees is reopening as of Wednesday evening, with their general manager and executive director behind the counter.

Pheonix Pain management and Nature’s Source say they also plan to reopen as soon as possible to serve their members.
