Former Gibsons mayor makes pitch to save a former town hall

A former mayor is calling on the Town of Gibsons to save a former town hall.

Gibsons is considering the demolition of the old building at Armours Beach. The one-time town hall has also served more recently as a club house for a rugby team, and staff say it could be beyond repair.

But Barry Janyk says with the right approach it can be saved.  He was back in the Council Chamber Tuesday to present a neighbourhood petition calling for the building to get another chance.

After a proposed redevelopment plan got a lukewarm response Council is going back to the public for more input, and hiring a specialist to design new swim-floats that won’t harm sensitive eel grass beds.
