MHOs say we're past the peak of flu season, but don't slack off on the hand washing

The area’s medical health officers say it looks like we’re over the hump for flu season, but they’re still suggesting people consider a vaccination and pay attention to hand washing habits.

Dr. Paul Hasselback is the Medical Health Officer for the mid-Island. He says the past couple of weeks have seen a drop in flu cases.

Dr. Paul Martiquet on the Sunshine Coast says the situation there is much the same. He also says the number of cases remains on par with past seasons, but the dominance of the H1N1 strain is having an interesting consequence.

Martiquet says what they are continuing to see at care facilities is outbreaks of norovirus. It’s been the same on the Island.
