BCF says Island Sky did well on long crossing to Nanaimo

BC Ferries says using Departure Bay as a temporary terminal for the route from Powell River to the Island went off without a hitch.

Terminals in Comox and Powell River have been undergoing upgrades and while both sides were shut down travellers had to a make a 3 hour crossing from Saltery Bay to Nanaimo.

Comox reopened on the weekend.

Deborah Marshall of BC Ferries says using the MV Island Sky for crossing of Georgia Strait gave the company a good sense of how well that type of ferry performs, and confirmed what they already thought.  They could be suitable for just about any route in the system, and the contracts for new ships will probably follow that design.

The Powell River terminal is expected to re-open in early March.
