Woodfibre LNG gets environmental OK from province

The province is issuing Woodfibre LNG in Howe Sound an environmental certificate, but opposition groups say they’re not giving up.

The certificate lists 25 conditions around protecting marine mammals, fish and fish habitat, and water during construction and operation of the plant.

The Wilderness Committee says the approval pushes BC further down the wrong path. The group’s Eoin Madden says they also have specific concerns about Woodfibre.

Federal approval for Woodfibre was a contentious issue in the election.  The NDP and Greens vowed to block it.

Liberal Pam Goldsmith Jones – who won West Vancouver Sunshine Coast – promised a more rigorous assessment at a Sechelt all candidates meeting.

It’s not clear when the federal environmental assessment will be finished.
