Greens, NDP and Conservatives busy with major promises for Island Coastal ridings

A big day for campaign announcements in the Island Coastal region, with the Greens, NDP and Conservatives all promising initiatives aimed at regional concerns.

The Conservatives say if re-elected they’ll put new resources into dealing with derelict boats. West Vancouver Sunshine Coast incumbent John Weston says the promise includes making his private members bill government policy, as well as setting money aside to help pay for the removal of derelicts.

Green Leader Elizabeth May, meanwhile, was in Cowichan Bay, near Duncan, promising the Greens will do more to protect Canada’s fresh water resources.

And, in Victoria the NDP pledged to make BC Ferries eligible for federal infrastructure money for terminal upgrades and new ships, which they say will lead to lower fares.
