George dominates public questions at Gibsons Council

The approval bylaws haven’t even been drafted, but the proposed waterfront hotel confernce centre dominated debate at Gibsons Council Tuesday night.

Much of it was driven by questions from the public, including consultant Dorothy Riddle, who sits on the Economic Development Committee.  She’s prepared a study on the economic impact of the George, and wants Council to put it on a future agenda.

That’s not likely to happen, but Councillor Dan Bouman says it’s a valuable contribution none-the-less

Acting on a motion from Bouman the Town will set aside an upcoming committee meeting to look at the economic questions around the project.

Mayor Wayne Rowe, meanwhile, faced questions about the increasingly bitter debate in the community…  and offered a blunt assessment.

Rowe says the Town will continue to follow its usual procedure, which will include a public hearing, likely in the spring.
