Deconstructing Dinner brings a fresh look at familiar foods to mid-Island and Sunshine Coast

Filmaker and food journalist Jon Steinman is in the area with his Deconstrucing Dinner series.

The 6 short documentaries look at where popular foods come from, how they fit into the economy, and efforts to produce more of them locally and sustainably.

He was in Nanaimo and on Gabriola Island earlier this week, and he’s coming to Gibsons on Thursday.

The Sunshine Coast Regional District and the RDN have put food security at the top of the agenda, with Agricultural Area Plans.  The Sunshine Coast is also developing a food policy council.

Steinman says he’s also seeing a move toward community supported agriculture;  not necessarily growing your own, but helping make it possible for others to produce the food the community needs.
