Anger over ferry cuts has Sunshine Coasters organizing protest

On the Sunshine Coast frustration over the proposed cuts, and how the consultations have been handled, is leading to a protest.

Sunshine Coast Regional District Chair Garry Nohr is helping organize the action, set for January 18th.

“There’s a bit of a feeling that we’re having things put upon us,” he says. “So we want to push forward with a needs assessment and also the fact that BC Ferries should be part of the highway, so we want to have on January 18th as many people as possible get out along the highway at certain spots.”

Nohr says they’ll also be asking all those people bring personalized letters for the premier.

He says the organizers, who include the local branch of Council of Senior Citizens of BC (COSCO) and members of the Ferry Advisory Committee, will be setting up a website soon and releasing more details of the exact times and locations for the demonstration.

Nohr also says although the consultations will be done long before the protest, he thinks the timing will be right to get the message out to the politicians in Victoria.
