Simons says constituents still out of loop on coal plan

The NDP MLA for Powell River Sunshine Coast says the province is ducking its responsibility to listen to people who might be affected by moving more coal through Texada Island.

Texada would be a so-called “trans-shipment” point if Surrey Fraser Docks gets the go-ahead to expand and take coal from the US for export to Asia.

With a public comment period now done, Nicholas Simons says his constituents have been left out.

A group calling itself the Salish Sea Coal Committee is now coming together.  They say they’ll work with the Sechelt First Nation, and keep pushing for a comprehensive health and environmental impact study taking in the whole route.
