Group of men ransacks boats at Gibsons Marina

RCMP on the Sunshine Coast say a group of  men caused a lot of damage and broke into a least two boats at the Gibsons Marina.

It happened over a 6 hour period starting around 10pm on January 26th.

Police say after a couple of boat owners called them on Wednesday to report the crime they started viewing security camera tape.  It shows  about 7 men wearing hoodies jumping the fence then going down onto the docks.  They entered some boats and tampered with many more, leaving hatches wide open, and exposing the cabins to the elements.

And it didn’t stop there.  After leaving the marina, the men emptied a fire extinguisher on a vending machine and several vehicles in the parking lot.

Two boat break-ins have been confirmed, but investigators expect  several more boat owners will be coming forward.

They’re asking any owners whose boats have been rummaged through to get in touch with Sunshine Coast RCMP.

They’re also reminding boat owners to secure their boats,  especially at night.

If you have any information call Constable Ben Stewart at (604)885-2266 or Crime Stoppers at 1(800)222-TIPS(8477).
