Layoffs at Tilray in Nanaimo

Tilray is laying off 61 employees.

The Nanaimo-based medical marijuana producer says they’ll get a severance package that includes a minimum of 8 weeks pay.

The company says they’re changing their operating model to be more efficient, which includes eliminating some positions at their Nanaimo facility.

“We recognize that our employees are what make Tilray great and we are committed to treating affected employees with dignity and respect throughout this transition,” said Tilray CEO Greg Engel in a written statement.

Even with the layoffs, Tilray remains one of the largest licensed producers in Canada, with more than 120 employees.

Tilray says the changes will not impact the thousands of patients they serve, the quality their products, or their plans to pursue clinical research.
