Boomerang Lake fire mostly contained, Enviro Canada says no relief in sight for dry conditions

The Coastal Fire Centre says the 6 1/2 hectare wildfire at Boomerang Lake, north west of Mt Benson is now 70 per cent contained.

Fire Information Officer Marg Drysdale says luckily, firefighters were able to get to it quickly Saturday afternoon.

Drysdale says the blaze, on private forest land, was person caused.

Unusually warm, dry weather is one of the reasons for the rapidly mounting fire danger, and there’s no relief in sight.

Environment Canada’s Matt MacDonald says we’re still under the system that caused a record dry May

MacDonald also says it will take more than a couple of rainy days to lift the drought. The region is 50 to 60 millimeters short of a normal May and June.
