Sechelt Council to revisit distribution of Community Forest dividends

The mayor of Sechelt says the rules around what happens with profits from the Community Forest need more clarification.

The Forest is managed by Sechelt Community Projects; a corporation owned by the District.

Earlier this month Council’s finance committee recommended that 50% of the annual dividends always go to the District of Sechelt, and 50% to the Community Forest Legacy Fund.

Mayor Bruce Milne says the issue in the past has been, in part, who controls the Legacy Fund.

The Fund is used to support various community initiatives.

At Milne’s urging, Council voted this week to send the idea back to the finance committee for more debate.
