Carriage houses being considered in Gibsons

They’re gaining in popularity in Vancouver, and it may not be long before carriage houses are an option for property owners in Gibsons.

After hearing from planners how the idea is working in other communities, Council voted this week to hold a public open house, and to start talking to local builders and designers.

The goal is to put together zoning to allow carriage homes where they’d like to see so-called “low density infill”.

The Town’s already hearing they’ll have to make sure the buildings don’t block views or take up too much of a lot.  And Councillor Dan Bouman says that will call for some creative design.

Councillor Lee Ann Johnson says she likes the idea too, but it will have to be done in a way that’s respectful of established neighbourhoods and she’d like to see rules in place to ensure a main house and carriage house are under the same owners.
