Porpoise Bay development plan moves forward, but will not be in “urban containment boundary”

The SSC Properties development proposed for the shores of Sechelt Inlet cleared a big hurdle Wednesday night.

Council followed up a public hearing with two more readings of Official Community Plan changes for the project.

But voted against including it in the so-called “urban containment boundary”.

The would make the huge mixed residential/commercial project eligible for municipal sewer service, and other infrastructure.

Councillor Alice Lutes argued that wouldn’t be fair to other neighbourhoods in the District.

Mayor Bruce Milne says the issue opens up a wider debate.

If the development clears the rest of the hurdles it would be up to SSC Properties to construct, run, and maintain things like a sewer system.
